This blog is a combination of Mara & Megan’s words! We wanted to start something new this year and write together, especially when it comes to our collective passions. We thought it would be something neat to give our readers, as it showcases our individual voices in a way that is unique but still offers you insight into who we are as mothers and followers of Christ. We hope you enjoy our first collective blog: “Welcoming God into Your Business” plus two short devotions (and a little bit of yoga!)
Life with God: A few words from Megan
What am I without God?
When I think back over my 34 years, I cover a range of emotions. Sweet bliss from my childhood, tons of fun and insecurities from my adolescent years, happy times and regrets in my early adulthood years, and finally peace at this stage of my life. My journey thus far has been….all over the place! But, I would not change any of it. Every single thing I experienced and every decision I made, led me to where I am today. Today, I depend 100% on God. I trust 100% that He will lead me to where I need to be. Yes, I still stress. Yes, I still worry and doubt. But as soon as those thoughts come into my brain, I feel a sudden relief. I feel the peace of God being with me. I soon remember to turn everything over to Him. With God in my corner, what is there to fear?
I have noticed a big difference when I stop and wait. I have to remember that God’s timing is the perfect timing. When I am faced with a big decision, I have realized not to make haste. I have learned to fight my impulse to act immediately. When I wait for God’s answer, He works everything out immensely better than I could have ever dreamed.
God yearns to have every part of us and be with us through every aspect of our lives. There is no need for us to experience all the ups and downs of life alone. God is there waiting to share and guide us through everything.
No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you. ~Joshua 1:5 (NIV)
God, Business & A Little Yoga: A few words from Mara
As I continue to welcome 2018 and reflect on 2017 (which I can’t believe has come and gone already), I can’t help but realize how much I’ve grown. Not just in business, but personally; as a mother, a wife, a friend, a Christ follower, everything. It’s like I shed a new skin and have come to realize what my purpose in life is. It took almost 4 years to get here, and I’m still learning.
It literally took all of 2017 to realize that if I welcome Him first and foremost into everything that I do, including this business, then everything ends up going our way – and better!
So I wanted to share with you what the difference was with and without God in business. What that looked like for me, personally:
- I was scrambling every single day to try and figure out what my next step would be
- I was leaning on everyone else – and they failed me
- We didn’t make much money, wasted a bunch of time, cried many tears, and worried more than anything
- I got noticed, but none of it was fulfilling
- I lost precious time with my family as I worked tirelessly towards a goal I was unsure of
- I’m excited to work because I know that everything that we do and say is of Him. And boy does He bless us.
- I’m finally utilizing my God-given gifts to reach people in an authentic way. My heart is so thankful for that
- I know that the future is secure. I no longer worry about the next step, He has it all in the palm of His hand – I’m no longer scared
- The workload has lessened…significantly
- I’ve connected with people that truly have my best interest at heart – collaborations are so much sweeter
I could go on and on. But what it boils down to is that once we decided to pursue our passion, open up and really share, and allow God to drive – it has totally changed our business for the better. And we desire that for you!
And so I’d like to leave you with a simple verse for you to meditate on while you stand in Mountain Pose (shown below). Stand tall as you read God’s word. Read the verse 5 times and then sit in meditation to reflect on what He is saying to you in this moment.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. ~ Colossians 3:32-24 (ESV)
A Little Yoga:
Stand tall, either on a yoga mat, the floor, or even on a level place outside. Feel your feet grounding firmly on whatever, or wherever, you are standing on. Stand on all 4 corners of the feet as you activate and engage the muscles around the leg bones. Lift up and out of the ground. Leave a microbend in the knees (do not lock out your knees…you might faitn 😉 ) Slight tuck to the pelvis, belly button hugs in to meet the spine.
Bring hands either to prayer or by your side with hands facing forward. Shoulders soften down the back, away from the ears. Head even and lifted atop of the shoulders. Imagine a string is attached to the top of your head, pulling you up towards the sky. Elongate your entire body as you ground through the feet.
Close your eyes, stand tall, and breathe. Stay here for 5 to 10 deep breaths.
